Session 4 Self-Reflection Paper
It has been suggested that emotional intelligence (EI), or the awareness and management of emotions in ourselves and others, is a better predictor of life success than IQ. Although this theory gained prominence in the subfield of organizational management, researchers are now proposing that not only is EI essential for successful leaders, but it is key for psychological health and success in life. A model of the four domains is below:
Self |
Others |
|
Awareness |
Self-Awarenessbeing aware of ones emotions and their impact |
Social Awarenessbeing aware of the emotions of others (empathy) |
Management |
Self-Managementability to control emotions, to self-disclose appropriately, & to adapt to changes |
Relationship Managementmanaging conflict, encouraging others, providing constructive feedback |
