According to these videos,
- What should science, math, and language & literacy look like in early childhood?
- How should these concepts be introduced and reinforced? Please specifically reference the videos in your answers.
THEN,
Please set up a math, science, or language & literacy experience for young children. (remember, it can include all of them)
For example, in the image above – This toddler that I gave wood glue and recently cut wood to, through using the wood and the glue has learned new vocabulary – wood glue, wood, saw, sawdust. She has seen a large piece of wood cut into smaller pieces. She is feeling the sawdust, the texture of the glue, and seeing what happens when she uses the glue over the blocks. As the glue dries she will see it change texture and color. Through her exploration and a teacher asking thoughtful questions, she is learning about science through the changing elements and cause and effect, math through the new shapes and a whole becoming a half, and counting the pieces that she now has, and language and literacy through new vocabulary introduced by her teacher in their discussions.
- This should be something where the child can make discoveries on their own, with limited support from the teacher.
- This can and should be done with materials from around your home.
- Think about some of the experiences you’ve seen in the videos and that the teachers have offered on Zoom.
- This should be set-up in an inviting way, which makes a child want to engage with the materials.
- Explain what you did, why you choose to do what you did and then upload a photo of your set-up.
