In light of diversity and global perspectives of care, I understand that as nurses we should be culturally competent in care deliverance, to lessen the impact of health disparities, keeping in mind that, Hispanics and Asian Americans, American Indians, Alaska natives and Black Americans are all less likely than Whites to have health insurance and have more difficulty and fewer choices while accessing health care. (DeNisco&Barker,2016). The National League of Nursing (NLN) is calling for nursing educational institutions to prepare an ethnically and racially diverse workforce, including faculty to mentor future nurses and researchers to help find solutions to issues posed by global diversity (DeNisco & Barker, 2016) In my opinion every nurse should accept this challenge, and view our patients from a variety of perspectives. As global citizens, we need to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to function in this multi-cultural community and maintain unity in diversity.
