Argumentative / Persuasive Essay GuidelinesIn an Argumentative/Persuasive Essay, the writer makes a claim about an issue, offers a range ofsupporting material for the claim, and analyzes the issue. The goal is to convince readers that the claimabout an issue (the thesis statement) is valid and persuasive.The introduction should: Grab the readers’ attention. Clearly introduce and define the topic. Make a claim about the issue (thesis statement) this presents a strong argument and clearlyindicates your purpose for writing.The writer must then persuade the readers that the claim is valid. The body paragraphs should: Clearly present the main arguments that support the thesis statement. Include support for the claims (facts, statistics, expert opinions, emotionally persuasivearguments, etc.) Present one or more counterarguments to show that opposing opinions are being reasonablyconsidered.? Discussing only your opinion makes your essay sound biased, and your readers may not beconvinced of your viewpoint.
