Question Description
We have recently covered a lot of art that involves directions and following through. This week we covered Sol LeWitt’s directions for making a drawing and earlier you completed Yoko Ono’s drawing tasks from her book Grapefruit. This type of art leaves a lot up to chance and embraces randomness. It can also be categorized as Conceptual Art because it is the IDEA that comes first and the rest is merely follow through.
Prompt:
Your assignment for the first half of your midterm project is to come up with your own set of instructions from which someone could create a piece of art – you are creating the IDEA. Your instructions should leave room for interpretation. If 10 different people were to follow your instructions they would each create something totally different. I encourage you to stay away from specific material instructions and specific technical concerns. Your instructions should be as open as possible.
You must provide between 5 and 10 instructions – they may be numerically or alphabetically listed, or you may wish to create your own system. BE CREATIVE. Give your piece a title.
DO NOT CREATE THE ARTWORK. Your only job here is to create the instructions.
